Mawem Brothers: Improving Access to Climbing
MBS Industry is a French company created by renowned climbing Olympians Mickaël and Bassa Mawem and Sébastien Kuehn, a multi-entrepreneur engineer.
“At MBS Industry, we create solutions to make climbing accessible to everyone as well as safer.”
Over 20 engineers have tirelessly worked on our four different products:
Flagship Product - CAMI (Climbing Assistance Motorized Interface): The motorized auto-belay CAMI is what enables a new type of climbing called Footing Vertical™. Footing Vertical™ is climbing reimagined with electric assistance. The climber sets their support level, lightening the load from 10% up to 99% of their bodyweight for a smooth and empowering experience.
The Security Controller - BASS (Base Automatic Security System): A security system that alerts climbers and gym staff if someone starts climbing without being attached to the autobelay. Compatible with all autobelay models currently on the market.
The CHAS harness: (Coming Soon) A patented harness which wheelchair users can put on autonomously.
Spreader Bar: (Coming Soon) this helps climbers who can’t use their legs into a vertical orientation to make the experience of climbing as enjoyable, and comfortable as possible.
Combined, CAMI and BASS have accounted for 70,000 hours of development over the past 4 years.
Different Modes:
CAMI
Will have selectable presets that will be on the app (such as a program for people with paraplegia), but everyone will be able to customize their own experience by setting different parameters themselves, such as the level of assistance, and toggling “auto-take” (CAMI will engage automatically and hold the climber in place instead of instantly lowering).
BASS
Classic Mode: Sounds when a climber is not attached and reaches 2.30 meters.
Competition Speed Mode: Sounds as soon as the hands are placed on the starting holds of the speed route and the climber is not attached.
Private Gym Speed Mode: Sounds before the climber gains too much speed, at the 3rd handhold of the official route.
The products have been trailed at the Mawem brothers’ climbing gym in Colmar, as well as at Le Topo in Le Fayet, the Massy, Troyes, Bulgneville climbing clubs and at the CLUB FRANCE during the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
